Our insect bioconversion work tackles two urgent challenges: the rising cost of livestock feed and the overwhelming volume of food waste generated across the region. Using black soldier fly larvae (BSFL), we convert spoiled foods, market leftovers, and agro-industrial waste into high-value animal feed ingredients that are protein-rich, affordable, and environmentally friendly.
The larvae produce:
- High-quality insect protein for poultry, piggery, aquaculture, and pet food
- Nutrient-dense insect oils suitable for feed compounding and industrial use
- EcoBoost Grass Bio-Fertilizer, a potent organic fertilizer that restores depleted soils and boosts crop yields
To scale this impact, Ecobed builds automated BSFL farming systems equipped with controlled-environment units, digital monitoring, and efficient waste-handling mechanisms. These systems allow farmers, youth groups, and agripreneurs to produce their own insect feed locally, cutting costs by up to 40% while reducing dependence on imported soy, fishmeal, and synthetic fertilizers. Our model strengthens food security, drives circular agriculture, and positions East Africa as a leader in sustainable feed innovation.
